Hockey update: Mustangs clinch playoff spot

OGDEN — The Ogden Mustangs clinched a Western States Hockey League playoff spot with a 3-1 win on Friday over instate rival Park City Jr. Moose.

The teams were scheduled to play an outdoor game in Midway on Saturday, but it was postponed due to bad weather. A reschedule date has been tentatively set for March 2.
The Mustangs’ Kyle Gover says the team will face either Cheyenne or Idaho in the first round. The format will be a three-game series all played at the higher seeds’ arena on March 9-11. For a list of Ogden’s remaining regular-season games go here.

Grizzlies play Wednesday

WEST VALLEY CITY — The Grizzlies start a four-game set against the Las Vegas Wranglers Wednesday at 7 p.m. It’s Utah’s last home game this month, as the Grizz have trips to Las Vegas, Boise, and Ontario, Calif., planned.

Aggies beat Wildcats, showdown with Utes next

OGDEN — The Utah State hockey club held on to beat Weber State 9-5 at the Ice Sheet on Saturday. The Utes lost to Washington 2-0 in a hard-fought game. The Huskies scored an empty-netter with 30 seconds left in the game.

The Utes and Aggies will tangle 7:15 p.m. on Friday at the Eccles Ice Arena in North Logan.  Both teams have 58 points, tied atop the West Division standings.
