Ice roundup: this and that from the hockey world

USA Hockey High School National Championships at the Sports Complex in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

As the USA Hockey high school championship continues on its second day in Salt Lake City, Utah clubs Judge Memorial and Bingham will try to recover from the routs they suffered yesterday. Two schools I used to cover when I worked at the Idaho Falls Post Register had some nice results as both Skyline and Idaho Falls scored big wins.

Grizzlies put the hurt on the Steelheads

Two weeks after the Idaho Jr. Steelheads eliminated the Ogden Mustangs, the Grizzlies completed their season series with their closest rivals with a 6-1 beatdown. Utah went 8-4-1 vs. Idaho this season and are playing well as they come upon their final homestand of the season.

The Grizzlies play the Colorado Eagles on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. It’s Anti-Tobacco Weekend, so if you go to the Tobacco Free Utah Facebook page and share your story about quitting tobacco you will have chance to win free tickets to the games.

Next week the team will also hold “A Night with the Grizzlies,” where the team will be introduced, autographs will be signed, sweaters will be auctioned and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Admission is $10. The night is free for season ticket holders and $5 for mini-plan holders.

For those who love hockey uniforms and history of the NHL, you’ll love this site: One of my favorites is the Pittsburgh Pirates wearing yellow and black stripes — years before the baseball team did. You can search by team or by season. Very cool.
