BYU women’s rugby team advances to Division I semifinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio — So far, so very good for the BYU women’s rugby team.

One day after smashing Ohio State 54-0 on the Buckeyes’ own field, the Cougars shut out Northern Iowa 41-0 to advance to the Division I semifinals in Stanford, Calif.

The games are set for May 11 at Steuber Rugby Stadium on the Stanford Campus. The action kicks off at 3 p.m. (MST) with Penn State vs. Womens Cougar Rugby (BYU), followed by Brown at Stanford at 5 p.m.

The Championship game will be at 4 p.m. on May 12.

The Nittany Lions, led by Sadie Anderson who scored a try and kicked three conversions, advanced by beating Navy, 36-0.

The Brown Bears, one of the perennial powerhouses, scored nearly all their 38 points through Chelsea Garber and Patricia Ekpo in a 38-10 win over Virginia.

Stanford, meanwhile, had six players score tries on the Cardinal’s way to eliminating Cal.
