Sabrecats, Lions increase their lead in the Intermountain Cricket League

The Salt Lake County Sabrecats faced the Utah Lions on Sunday, April 22, at 11th Avenue Park in Salt Lake City.

Sunday saw both the Sabrecats and the Hawks win to increase their early lead in the Intermountain Cricket League standings.

SABRECATS 167, LIONS 164: At Salt Lake City, the Lions won the toss and elected to bat first. At the beginning it turned out to be the right decision as their opening batsmen Omar Alam and Zaki Murtaza were playing excellent and aggressive cricket. “After the fall of the second wicket, Lions were not able to with stand the smart bowling by Arun and Max,” said Sabrecats captain Nasir Khan.

Arun took a season high five wickets with only conceding 15 runs in five overs. Max took two wickets, giving up only 19 runs in five overs.

Sabrecats opening batsmen Abishak Bhatia and Shahid Khan started the inning with steadily nibbling away the total until Shahid lost his wicked by accidentally pushing the ball into the stumps. The highlights of Sabrecats inning was, the aggressive cameo by Saeed Ahmed, who scored 43 runs just off of 21 balls — 26 of his runs came in just one over. He hit four sixes and 4 fours.

In the end the Salt Lake County club won the match by five wickets.
