COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team saw its chance of winning a national championship come to an end with a 13-9 loss to Towson on Friday in the semifinals of the 2012 WCLA National Championships.
The fourth-seeded Griffins (17-6) were eliminated by the No. 1-seeded Tigers (16-0) in the semis for the second straight season.
Westminster led the game early and with 4:23 to play in the first half they were ahead 4-3. Towson scored the final two goals of the half and carried a 5-4 advantage into halftime. The Towson lead would reach 10-6 midway through the second half and the Griffins couldn’t get closer the rest of the way.
The Griffins will end the season on Saturday when they face Rhode Island in the third-place game at 10:30 a.m. A win would give Westminster its best finish in school history.
