SANDY — Indianapolis’ Cathedral high school rugby club claimed USA Rugby Boys’ High School Club National championship in emphatic fashion by beating United (Alpine, Utah) 51-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium today.

The Indiana boys showed great patience in the first half and scored after nine minutes through the inside center, Bryce Campbell. United had some promising moments but had trouble putting phases together and their handling let them down. Cathedral was patient and disciplined though, a testament to the coaching.

When Cathedral fullback Michael Weimer crossed in the 21st minute, the floodgates opened. Man of the match, Joe Schroeder, struck next after a barreling run. To extend the lead, Drake Myers, the outside center, took to the boot and slotted two penalties on either side of half time.

United couldn’t find an answer for the structured Cathedral attack and four more tries came in before the final whistle.

Box Score:
Cathedral 51
Tries: Campbell, Weimer, Schroeder, Hill 2, Schrader, Wood
Conversions: Myers 5
Penalties: Myers 2
United 0
