SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Lions captain Omar Alam won the toss and put the Salt Lake County Sabrecats to bat in the Twenty20 format at 11th Avenue Park on Sunday.
The Sabrecats were able to put a very strong total of 168 while holding the Lions to 165 despite what Sabrecats’ captain Nasir Kahn called “a splendid inning” by Alam. He scored 97 runs unbeaten. Sabrecat batters were lead by Rahid Karim.
However, the strong bowling by Ishaq Afridi and Maxwell Atkinson kept the Lions off the scoresheet enough for Salt Lake County to escape with the three-run victory.
“The match was probably the season’s most thrilling thus far,” Khan said.
The Sabrecats travel to Idaho this weekend to take on the Boise Cricket Club in a 30-over match, which will complete the rain-shortened Intermountain Cricket League Memorial Day Tournament. The winner of the match will take home the trophy.
