Utah wrestling club gives out annual awards

SANDY — Mountain Top Wrestling Club recently held its annual Awards Banquet, recognizing youth athletes for their achievements during the 2012 freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling season. Attendees from the 40-plus-member team received gold medals for their hard work and dedication over the season, team photos, and trophies for the Most Improved, Most Dedicated, Rookie of the Year and Outstanding Wrestlers.

“This was a great year,” said club coach Bill Kilpack. “We had first-year wrestlers who performed very well at state levels, including one taking state. We have several in the running for Intermountain Champions. The club finished first in both styles at the Mountain Top Classic. A lot of fun with a lot of good growth over the season.”

Four trophies for Outstanding Wrestler were awarded to Ethan Wood of Riverton, Intermediate (ages 9 and 10) 65 pounds; Austin Woolley of Draper, Schoolboy (ages 13 and 14) 98 pounds; Brady Anderson of Sandy, Junior (ages 17 and 18) 138 poundsand Dylan Knight of Draper, Junior 152 pounds.

Two trophies were presented for Rookie of the Year (first-year wrestlers or their first year with the club). Receiving Rookie of the Year were Kolten Bradshaw of South Jordan, Flyweight (ages 6 and Under) 35 pounds, and Marik Borzoni of South Jordan, Bantam (ages 7 and 8) 55 pounds

Three trophies were also awarded for the Most Improved wrestlers. These were awarded to Gavin Dockstader of Riverton, Novice (ages 11 and 12) 95 pounds; Eli Schott of Sandy, Novice 105 pounds; and Tyler Fay of Bluffdale, Schoolboy 77 pounds

Trophies for Most Dedicated went to Jack Gardner of Sandy and Zach Hendrickson of Midvale.

The trophy recipients were selected by the Mountain Top Wrestling Club coaching staff.
