BYU hosting sevens invitational on Saturday

BYU RUGBY PRESS RELEASE

PROVO — Fifteens national champion BYU rugby club is looking to develop their sevens program by hosting the inaugural Cougars Sevens Invitational on Saturday.

Helaman Field will host Utah, Southern Utah, Utah State, Weber State, Utah Valley and Northern Colorado starting at 10 a.m.

With the growing interest in sevens, BYU head coach David Smyth says his program is looking forward to using the fall sevens season as a development tool.

“We have a number of players this year who could use some competitive game time,” he said in a press release. “So we’re looking forward to not only developing our sevens program but to also use this as a chance to develop our team as well.”

BYU, Utah and Utah Valley are planning to enter two teams.

Admission is $2 for students and $3 for non-students. Helaman Field is located south of Lavell Edwards Stadium. Parking is available in stadium’s south parking lot.

The schedule hasn’t been released yet, but here are the pools (the top 3 in each advance to playoffs):

Pool A: BYU 1, Utah 1, SUU 1, Utah State
Pool B: BYU 2, Utah 2, SUU 2, Dixie State
Pool C: BYU 3/Snow College, Utah Valley, Weber State, Northern Colorado
