High school ultimate disc championships field all set

SOUTH JORDAN — Eight teams have advanced from the North and South Regionals to this weekend’s state tournament at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center.

Lone Peak looks like the team to beat — even scoring on the Knights will be a challenge. The Lone Peak A team allowed just two points on its way to earning the top seed from the South. Lone Peak’s B team was took second, getting revenge on Pleasant Grove in the second/third place game (The Vikings beat LP’s B in pool play). Timpview qualified the hard way, beating Springville, Maple Mountain and Lone Peak C narrowly to take the final state spot.

In the North, Sky View swept through, winning all five of its games, including a 15-6 decision over Layton-based Break Force. Bingham smashed Judge 15-4 to grab the third seed from the North. Skyline struggled to a 1-3 record in pool play, but the Eagles reeled off three straight wins in the 4th-place bracket — including a 13-12 win over Judge to claim the final spot.

Here’s a list of the final eight (with their USA Ultimate national youth open club ranking):

Lone Peak A (2)
Sky View (10)
Layton (41)
Lone Peak B (48)
Pleasant Grove (56)
Bingham (77)
Skyline (162)
Timpview (247)
