LIONS 173, BEEHIVES 169: At Salt Lake City, in the last ICL match before the Ramadan break Beehive took on Utah Lions for the first time this season. Beehive Captain, Tariq, won the toss and decided to bat first.
As always Beehive openers Farasat and Fahad Rana started off very aggressively. However, Lions captain Omar Alam got the first breakthrough with a clean bowled. Lions regular fast bowlers Hamza Jamshed and Usman Shahzad didn’t allow the batsman to settle in and got the second breakthrough. Beehive opener Fahad was looking very good but got out on 18 to a beautiful delivery by Hamza. Beehive middle order Tahir Rana and Tariq played sensibly and kept the scoreboard ticking. Both the players took quick singles and built a 50 partnership. Lions’ off spinner Aslam Cheema and right arm orthodox Harris Zia bowled beautifully to stop the momentum. Harris broke the partnership with Cheema taking a diving catch at point. Tariq played a captain’s innings of 52 and lifted Beehive to a competitive target of 169 runs. Tahir scored 36 and Qasim scored 10. Harris led the Lions bowlers with three wickets and Hamza with two wickets. Usman, Aslam and Alam bagged a wicket each.
Beehives’ fast bowlers Fahad and Shahid Rana bowled with good line and length and kept Lions’ openers Alam and Cheema on their feet. However, the watchful openers kept the scoreboard ticking with the first-wicket stand of 106 in 12 overs. After the drinks break, Beehive’s Qasim got the breakthrough by dismissing Cheema on 29. In came in Lion’s talented batsman Umair Munawar. He began and smoked a couple of boundaries very quickly. Umair’s wondrous knock of 32 in just 19 balls took Lions home with a comfortable win by seven wickets. Alam top the Lions scoring with 69 and remained not out.
