BYU’s Shaun Davies named to Eagles’ roster; Utah’s John Cullen “unavailable”

BOULDER, Colo. – Former BYU player Shaun Davies was named to the Eagles Select XV roster for the Americas Rugby Championship.

The ARC is a four-team tournament, made up of the top rugby nations of North and South America. Langford, British Columbia, will host this year’s tournament. The Eagles will face Canada, Argentina and Uruguay from Oct. 11-19.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to build and nurture our player pool through this year’s ARC,” Tolkin said in a USA Rugby press release. “We have a more balanced squad this year with a moderate number of players with international experience as well as many prospects who are looking to make strides within the National Team setup for the first time.

“The ARC is an important process for us in that players will continue to get a high performance experience at the assembly as well as play in highly competitive international matches, which will test what they are capable of doing against greatly increased pressure.”

Former Utes’ football standout John Cullen was on the “selected, but unavailable” list. One wonders if he can still join the team after being dismissed from his responsibilities at Copper Hills High School.

Cullen, who I wrote about a few months ago, has gotten a lot of support from his Copper Hills players, where he was an offensive line coach.
