PROVO — Seven teams from around the Mountain West will join BYU for the Cougars Sevens Rugby Invitational on Saturday.
This is the second time BYU has hosted a sevens tournament in the fall. Sevens is among the big reason rugby is on the rise in the United States. This version of rugby will be included in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“The brand of sevens rugby is really exciting and fan friendly,” said BYU flanker Kyle Sumsion, who played in the USA Rugby national system during this summer, a press release. “It’s exciting to be a part of something that will be in the Olympics in a few years.”
Games start at 10 a.m. and run until the championship game at 4 p.m. All games run about 20 minutes long and will be played at Helaman Field. Cost is $3.
