LANGFORD, British Columbia — Former BYU player Shaun Davies helped the USA Eagles beat Canada 30-10 on their own turf in the Americas Rugby Championship. Former Utah Utes rugby and football player John Cullen also played on Tuesday, coming in off the bench to play the final 20 minutes.
The developmental side was the first Eagles team to beat Canada since 2009. They have one more match in the three-match tournament, and a win over Uruguay on Saturday at 6 p.m. (MT) would give the Eagles a second-place finish — their best ever finish in ARC.
“We were disappointed with those two losses in August and felt we played pretty well – Canada came away with two quality wins,” Eagles’ hooker Phil Thiel told USA Rugby. “This was a little bit of revenge for us and it’s a great platform to build from.”
